About Jose Carlos Gonzalez Hurtado
Chief Commercial Officer, Carrefour Group, France Background Born in Spain, Jose Carlos Gonzalez-Hurtado attended Pontificia Comillas University in Madrid and acquired a selection of degrees. Fluently speaking many languages, this Spanish entrepreneur has a remarkable career to his name which stretches over the last 2 decades and his proficiency in “end to end” consumer activities has earned himself a standing as a principal leader in the business world. With his vibrant Spanish temperament and his sharp marketing instincts, these fine qualities have assisted him in his ability to be able to understand the local market conditions and establish successful communication in certain arenas. Business Career Jose Carlos Gonzalez Hurtado began his notable career in 1989 with Procter and Gamble (P&G). After climbing the ladder he developed into P&G’s Global Business Unit as the Marketing Director for Fabric Care in West Europe. Over the years with P&G he served in many positions in various units and ultimately became Officer of the Company. From 2001 to 2004 Gonzalez-Hurtado held the position of General Manager of P&G in Israel, West Bank and Gaza. In 2003 he was named Executive of the Year by Israel’s national newspaper due to his skills in tripling P&G’s profits and doubling the number of brands at such a severe economic recession at that time. He was accountable for the considerable growth in P&G’s business in Europe and Middle East and one of the fastest growing worldwide. During his assignment, P&G became the most awarded advertiser in Israel and he achieved one of the best World employee satisfaction rates of 94%. From 2004 to 2006 Gonzalez-Hurtado served as General Manager of P&G’s Global Leadership Council in Eastern Europe, where he led the Wella integration and the acquisition of Gala Co. and later Gillette into P&G. He was responsible for P&G becoming the preferred employer and the most admired company in the Ukraine. From 2006 until 2009 he was the Vice President of Global Braun, one of P&G’s largest brands globally, operating in over 100 countries, with a business of almost $2 Billion. In 2008, following a 10 year period of decline, market shares in the hair care business and Braun’s profits rose to highest levels, in spite of global recession at that same period. In 2009, following 20 years at Procter & Gamble, Gonzalez-Hurtado moved to Paris where he became Carrefour Group’s Chief Commercial Officer and Member of the Executive Board. As one of the largest retailers globally in around 40 countries, Gonzalez-Hurtado was in charge of the business function of the whole group as well as being responsible for the private labels, accounting for 25% of the total turnover of Carrefour. Special Achievement Jose Carlos Gonzalez Hurtado was listed as one of the 100 individuals included on the Agenda International list and was chosen by the committee as the recipient of the award. The committee originally considered over 200 potential candidates and through review of resumes and qualifications, the list was shortened to 100 and is included in the Agenda International 100 directory. An inclusion in this publication is a testament to the accomplishments in international business and leadership by each individual. Many of the candidates extend from various backgrounds including politics and academia. Additional information Gonzalez-Hurtado enjoys many sports including basketball, squash and tennis. His various positions led him to reside in many locations worldwide including Spain, Greece, Switzerland, Israel, Ukraine and Germany. He currently lives in France with his wife and 5 daughters.
